Employee Benefits

Stella Maris offers two health insurance options through CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. Both plans include:

  • Prescription Drug Coverage
  • Vision Coverage


Stella Maris offers dental insurance through CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. The dental plan includes coverage for:

  • General and Major Services
  • Diagnostic and Preventive Services
  • Orthodontic Services


Stella Maris offers both Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts. Employees can set aside pretaxed money for eligible health care and/or eligible dependent care expenses. We make reimbursement easy. You can use your FSA for reimbursement of your co-pays and coinsurance, prescription drugs, even over-the-counter medical supplies.

Flexible spending accounts are provided by Select Benefits.


Stella Maris provides eligible employees Basic Life insurance in the amount of 1x annual salary to a maximum of $50,000.


Eligible employees have the option to purchase Short Term and/or Long Term disability insurance.


Stella Maris offers a 401(k) Plan through Fidelity Investments

  • Employees may contribute up to 100% of their income on a pre-tax basis up to the IRS maximum limit. Some employees over age 50 may be eligible for a catch-up provision up to the IRS maximum limit.
  • After 1 year of service, participants are eligible to receive an Employer Match beginning the next calendar quarter.

Stella Maris also offers a 403(b) Plan through Fidelity Investments.

  • Employees may contribute up to 100% of their income on a pre-tax basis up to the IRS maximum limit.
  • Employees will not receive a match on the deferrals on this plan.


Stella Maris offers regular full time and eligible part time employees generous amounts of Paid Time Off (PTO) for vacation, personal, sick usage. We also offer several paid holidays. Leave begins to accrue from the first date of employment and employees may begin using their leave after they have completed their probationary period.


Tuition Reimbursement

Tuition reimbursement is available for eligible full time and part time employees who want to develop professionally or personally, or whose job requires more training. Tuition reimbursement is given in exchange for one year of employment at Stella Maris.

Education Loan

Employees who are eligible for the Tuition Reimbursement may apply for a Mercy Education Loan. This is an interest-free loan which is to be used to assist employees who need funds to begin their education. The Mercy Education Loan is given in exchange for one year of employment at Stella Maris.

Nursing Scholarship

Eligible employees may apply for the Barnickel Scholarship after one year of employment. This scholarship is provided to employees who wish to further their nursing careers in the long-term care field.
